Historically, the book of Exodus deals with the deliverance of Israel from Egypt, but viewed doctrinally, it focuses on the theme of redemption. Just as the first book of the Bible, Genesis, teaches that God elects unto salvation, the second book, Exodus, instructs us on how God saves, namely, through redemption. Therefore, redemption is the dominant subject of Exodus.

Following the theme of redemption, the book of Exodus then shows us what we are redeemed for - worship. This characteristic is evident in the book of Leviticus, where we learn about the holy requirements of God and the gracious provisions He has made to meet these requirements.

The author of this work is Arthur W. Pink, an English pastor and theologian who lived from 1886 to 1952. He studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, USA, before beginning his pastoral work in various locations, including Colorado, California, Kentucky, and South Carolina. He also spent a brief period preaching and teaching in Sydney, Australia, before returning to his native England in 1934. He spent the last 12 years of his life in Lewis, Scotland, where he remained until his death at the age of 66.
